El Santorini's main port (Athinios) is located in the western part of the island, in the same village of Athinios. This is the port where stop the vast majority of ferries and cruises that approach the island.

As well there is another port in Fira, but it is much smaller, and it is not usual that the ferries dock there, it is more a fishing port. Although it is in this port (Fira) from which most of the excursions to the volcano.

Ferries to Santorini (Athens + rest islands)

There are Regular ferries from the port of Piraeus of Athens through the Greek companies Blue Star (http://www.bluestarferries.com/) and Hellenic Seaways (http://www.hellenicseaways.gr/). It is very important to keep in mind that there are two types of ferries, the normal ones and the fast ones. How to get around from the port of Athinios

Keep in mind that many of the hotels in Santorini offer free transportation from the port if you previously agree with them.

Local bus

On the outside of the port there are buses of the local company KTEL (http://www.ktel-santorini.gr) that take you to most of the surrounding towns. Buses run every 30 minutes during the summer, and every hour during the winter. You have to bear in mind that public buses are green, and that the other colors are tourist buses.
The tickets are purchased from the bus driver once on board and costs 2,30 € (price updated as of May of the 2017). If you go somewhere other than Fira, Kamari o Perissa, take a look at the KTEL bus routes, since you will have to change Fira.

The buses are coordinated with the ferries, so that whenever a ferry arrives at the port, there is a bus waiting, even if it is at night.

Regarding bus schedules, confirm them on the island or on the KTEL website (http://www.ktel-santorini.gr).

Taxis are available outside the port. However, during the summer months, it can be quite difficult to find a free taxi. As an advice, first agree with the taxi driver the price of the trip, that each one charges what he wants.

Car, moped or rental quad

As in most ports in the world, there are some car rental agencies in the port, where you can rent from mopeds, quads or cars.
